Good Things Happen When You Quit Smoking

fingers-with-cigAlthough I’ve helped hundreds of people quit smoking I know it can be tough to quit. People come up to me at parties all the time and tell me of their struggles to quit. They’ll explain that even though they already know that it is bad for them they still can’t seem to shake their old habit. What I’ve found is explaining the good things that happen can be very helpful for people wanting to quit smoking.  This knowledge might not be helpful right away, but like a stream working away at a stone – it might wear down your resistance to quitting.

Smoking puts a lot of strain on all your body’s systems. Most smokers don’t realize that. When you stop, your body can go back to its normal functioning and you’ll look and feel healthier and better.

When you quit smoking your lungs begin to heal. If you were to take a look inside your own lungs right now, I’m sure you would be horrified by what you see. Since cigarettes are full of tar, and even the ones that claim to be low tar still have a lot of tar in them, your lungs are coated with this sticky substance. The smoke comes back out when you exhale, but the tar remains stuck to the tissue inside your lungs. When you quit smoking, that tar can begin to clear out. That’s one of the reasons that smokers cough after they quit, to get rid of that nasty stuff that is now freeing up from their lung’s lining. Most studies show that your lungs will probably be back to normal, or close to normal, within a few years of quitting. The damage is not irreversible.

There are some other important things that happen when you stop smoking too. Now remember you’re going to cough quite a bit as your lungs begin to clear out but don’t worry, it’s a good thing. When you quit smoking, your chances for having a heart attack or stroke go way down. If you have a family history of these diseases, that is good news indeed.

Food is going to taste good again! What happens when you quit smoking is that your taste buds come alive once more, and you are going to experience food in whole new ways. Since your smoking habit has deadened your taste buds you’ll be surprised at how good your food will taste. Just don’t get too carried away with all the “new” tastes since some people that quit experience weight gain.

You’re also going to feel better about yourself knowing that you’ve beat a habit that in the past controlled you. As you watch other smokers you may wonder what people thought about you when you were a smoker. They smell like smoke but they don’t seem to sense it, like you and all the other smoke free people do. Like your taste buds, your nose will open up to “new” smells that will probably delight you. You can smell the world around you in a much better way. You’ll probably also experience less colds and sinus problems.

When you quit smoking you’ll find that you suddenly feel, look, and even smell better. These are some great bonuses in addition to your improving health. So start the New Year and the rest of your life smoke free. You’ll be glad you did!

My goal is to help 5000 people quit smoking this year. That’s why I have a FREE e-course “Gearing up to quit smoking”, along with four other complimentary bonuses available at my website.
